The American School of Recife is committed to providing a quality education with an international perspective, supporting the development of the whole individual, and empowering young people to become confident, capable, and ethical participants in a world of global opportunities.
Towards achieving these goals students need to develop skills that embrace the health, personal/social, academic, and career domains. In order to promote such development, our students have access to a wide array of student services that are offered by the school nurse, psychologist, and guidance counselor. To foster development in the personal/social domain students have access to whole child classes, and counseling, where both programs assist students to develop an understanding of themselves, the rights and needs of others, to resolve conflict and define individual goals reflecting their interests, abilities, and aptitudes. To foster development in the health domain students have access to a school nurse and to whole health classes in which students are also assisted in understanding and acquiring bodily health awareness and personal safety skills.
To foster development in the academic domain counseling is provided, which assists students and their parents in acquiring
knowledge of the curriculum choices available to students, planning a program of studies, arranging and interpreting academic testing, and seeking academic opportunities. This domain also focuses on achieving goals and assisting students in understanding the relationship of academics to the world of work, and to life at home and in the community.
Finally, to foster development in the career domain students receive career and college counseling, which helps students acquire information and take actions relative to courses, credits, AP classes, extra curricular activities, college application process and opportunities that will help our students achieve their established goals embracing all the global opportunities our school can help them take advantage of.
